James Galyean - South Carolina Business and Civic Leader James Galyean is a successful attorney and civic leader from Anderson, SC. My Galyean spent 10 years as a partner with Nexsen Pruet, LLC, and two years as a federal prosecutor for the District of South Carolina where he received the United States Attorney Palmetto Award in 2008, for the Most Outstanding Assistant U.S. Attorney of the Year for the District of South Carolina. Mr. Galyean also served as Chief Counsel for the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Crime & Drugs, and he's admitted to the Supreme Court of South Carolina and the Supreme Court of the United States. From 2017 to 2019, Mr. Galyean founded a series of charter schools in South Carolina and Reason & Republic—the Education Management Organization that operates those schools. Each school Mr. Galyean has founded has had outstanding academic achievements, as the South Carolina Department of Education ranked both Summit Classical School and Belton Preparatory Academy among the top schools in the state for the 2020-2021 school year. Reason & Republic currently operates SC Preparatory Academy and the SC Preparatory Leadership school—online charter schools for 6th-8th graders in South Carolina. Reason & Republic's schools combine a classical education with a personalized approach focused on how students learn best, to provide students with the opportunity for success. Mr. Galyean has also served on numerous boards including the Tri-County Technical College Foundation, Upward Sports Foundation, and the Session at Christ Reformed Presbyterian Church, where he and his family are members. James Galyean has a bachelor’s degree in history and political science from Furman University and a JD from the University of South Carolina Joseph F. Rice School of Law. He resides in Anderson, South Carolina, with his wife and children.
